Love Modesto
Since 2009, residents from across the city have come together to Love Modesto. The community self-improvement project attracts thousands of volunteers to work on some 60 projects around town. The nonprofit project has spread to some 50 cities statewide and has seen more than 200,000 volunteer hours donated to fix, clean and better their communities. Festivities kick off in front of the Gallo Center for the Arts with free refreshments, music, activities and a kids zone.

Earth Day
Spend the city’s 26th annual Earth Day in the park with a celebration of environmentally friendly services and practices. The event will include live entertainment as well as a free electronic waste, paper shredding and recycling services. The festivities include a trash transformation art contest, food vendors, information booths and other activities about going green. Free StaRT bus transportation to and from the park is available every 20 minutes from the CrossPoint Community Church parking lot.

Modesto Symphony Orchestra
Husband-and-wife musicians Eliot Bailen and Susan Rotholz will be the featured soloists in the premiere performance of a work at the Modesto Symphony Orchestra this weekend composed by Bailen, Double Concerto for flute and cello. Music director David Lockington leads the concert, including performances of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 and Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro)” overture.

Calaveras Air Fair
Go up, up and away with the Calaveras Air Fair. Air show features an old-fashioned fly-in and open house and a classic-car show. Hear live music from the Calaveras Community Band and take part in airplane rides all day.

Columbia Wine Tasting
Sip and stroll while enjoying the 39th annual Columbia Wine Tasting. The event benefits the Columbia College Culinary Arts program and features more than 70 wineries and food vendors. Guests can sample wines from a large selection of California wineries and snack on hors d’oeuvres prepared by Columbia culinary students. Silent auction for collectible wines, dinners, gift baskets and more.
