In brief: Swiss music, yodeling fest in Modesto

Get your yodel on at the 29th annual Sangerfest.

The Pacific Coast Swiss Singing and Yodeling Festival will take place June 22-25 in Modesto and Ripon. The United Swiss Singing Societies of the Pacific Coast present the annual event, which will include a public Grand Concert at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23. Some 250 singers from the 11 participating societies of the Pacific Coast and Canada will be on the Gallo stage for the event. Tickets are $25-$35. Then from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a folk festival will be held at the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club in Ripon. Admission is $15 (15 and under free) with lunch and dinner tickets $12 and $20, respectively.

Music at the GMC

Music at the GMC returns with the True Life Trio this weekend.

The group is known for its vocal harmonies and rhythms from Eastern Europe, America and beyond. Members use improvisation throughout their repertoire, which includes original songs and folk tunes from Mexico, Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Poland, Ukraine and elsewhere.

The intimate concert series has brought folk, world and roots musicians to perform. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Gottschalk Music Center recital hall. Modesto Community Concert Association season

The Modesto Community Concert Association has announced its new concert season, which will move its shows to the smaller Foster Theater in the Gallo Center for the Arts.

The association – one of the Gallo Center’s resident companies – celebrates its 67th season this year. The series will kick off with the 2016 Valley Talent Project-winning Rykert Trip on Sept. 24. It continues with the world music youth group VOENA on Oct. 29, Bay Area trio StringQuake on Jan. 21, 2018, and Modesto’s own Knight Sounds on March 25, 2018.
