The rite of Central Valley summers known as MoBand is back. The six-week outdoor music series at Graceada Park attracts thousands for summer evenings listening to music and socializing with friends. The Modesto Band of Stanislaus County’s 98th season will begin with a tribute to Graffiti Summer, a program of rock ’n’ roll selections. The free concerts will run Thursday nights through July 13.

Graffiti Summer

Graffiti Summer kicks off with the movie that started it all, George Lucas’ “American Graffiti,” at the State Theatre. The week includes the Modesto Area Street Rod Association’s 12th annual Graffiti Classic Car Show at McHenry Village and the Mid-Valley Chevy Club’s four consecutive nights of Park ’n’ Shine shows spanning Modesto and Riverbank.

Comedy for a Cause

Comedian Billy Gardell, who starred with Melissa McCarthy on the CBS sitcom “Mike & Molly” and is in the new CMT series “Sun Records,” will headline the second annual Comedy for a Cause fundraiser at the Gallo Center for the Arts. The event will benefit the Race For Autism Campaign, which helps families who have children with autism. VIP meet-and-greet tickets including food and drinks are available for $100.

“Pippin”

The 2013 Award-winning Broadway revival of “Pippin” stops for two nights at the Gallo Center for the Arts. The high-flying acrobatic show features a flashy dance troupe led by the enigmatic Leading Player as they recount the story of a young prince, named Pippin, who searches for meaning. The show features music by the composer of “Wicked” and text by original show director-choreographer Bob Fosse.

Royal Flush Crapper Derby & Craft Faire

Don’t get flushed, it’s time to go again. Twain Harte Rotary sponsors its fourth annual Royal Flush Crapper Derby & Craft Faire. The outhouse race encourages local groups to build their own custom racing restroom to compete in the lighthearted event. More than 20 outhouse teams will race throughout the day. There will also be Tot Pot races for children, food, music, beer and wine, games and more.

Patterson Apricot Fiesta

The 47th annual Patterson Apricot Fiesta picks up again this weekend. The citywide celebration includes an antique farm equipment show, downtown vendors, food booths, kids games, historical displays, a firefighters muster, youth talent show, arm wrestling contests and live entertainment. The Miss Patterson pageant is at 8 p.m. Friday. Parade at 10 a.m. and fireworks at dusk Saturday.
