Oakdale teacher displays ‘Creation’ in pop-up
Oakdale High School art teacher Charles Alba is bringing a unique one-night-only exhibit to downtown Modesto’s Mistlin Gallery.
Alba, who has been teaching Oakdale for six years, is unveiling his pop-up art show “The Creation” from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, May 20. The evening will feature a showcase of Alba’s sculptural work accompanied by poetry. His pieces include functional wares inspired by Japanese forms. The show, which is Alba’s first gallery opening, also will allow audience interaction through his “Fantom” series, where patron can purchase silhouettes of ceramic forms, which can then be unboxed at home.

Turlock Concert Association
The Turlock Concert Association has started its annual subscription drive for its upcoming 2017-2018 concert season.
The new season will feature five shows, starting Oct. 10. The series will feature classical guitar soloist, a military tribute, pop music group, dance show, musical comedy and more. Season subscription holders get tickets to all give events as well as seats to community concert group shows in Modesto, Lodi and other affiliated organizations at no extra cost. All Turlock concerts are held at the Turlock Community Auditorium.
Season tickets are $60 for adults through May 31, an additional $10 per year for children. Subscription prices will rise to $65 in June. As of June 1, the subscription price rises to $65 per adult. Ha-Sauce Delight College Comedy Night
The Ha-Sauce Delight College Comedy Night brings in headlining comic Cheryl Anderson, known as “The Soccer Mom,” this week.
Anderson has appeared on “America’s Got Talent,” SF Sketchfest and the Sacramento Comedy Festival. The recurring comedy showcase is hosted by Modesto comic A.J. DeMello and will also feature comics Adam Pearlstein and Saul Trujillo. Show at 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the Pizza Factory in Turlock, across for California State University, Stanislaus. Entry is free.
Neil Young tribute concert
Newman’s West Side Theatre welcomes the Sacramento group Tribe of the Red Horse, a Neil Young tribute band, this weekend.
The group is known for performing the hits of Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Since forming in 2011, the group has performed at the Sacramento Music Festival as well as other Central Valley and foothills venues. Show at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20.
