Guitarraganza 2015
The music departments of Modesto Junior College, San Joaquin Delta College, University of the Pacific and Sacramento State University present the guitar festival Guitarraganza 2015. The event will feature a series of concerts across the MJC campus and other Modesto venues, including two performances by the critically acclaimed Texas Guitar Quartet. Sounds of New Orleans
The Modesto Symphony Orchestra celebrates the “Sounds of New Orleans” and jazz icon Louis Armstrong in its next concert. Featured artist trumpeter and vocalist Byron Stripling will perform many of Armstrong’s greatest hits in the show, which will be guest-conducted by New York-based drummer and conductor Michael Berkowitz. Stripling serves as artistic director and conductor of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra in Ohio and has performed on the PBS special “Evening at Pops” and Carnegie Hall in the past.

Mark Nizer
Comedy juggler Mark Nizer brings his high-flying act to the Gallo Center for the Arts. Nizer juggles everything from laser beams to carving knives and bowling balls. His current show is billed as a live 3-D show and comes complete with 3-D glasses for the audience.

Science on Screen
Science on Screen returns to the State Theatre with a double dip this week. First up Saturday will be a student-geared program featuring the film “Iron Man” paired with a program about “The Cardioid Project,” featuring speaker Dave Richards, a computational physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Then on Monday, the adult lecture a National Evening of Science on Screen will pair the film “Babette’s Feast” with a lecture, “The Physiology of Taste,” by Ken Albala, a professor of history at the University of the Pacific in Stockton and director of UOP’s food studies master’s program in San Francisco.

St. Patrick’s Day Party
Modesto’s popular Irish pub P. Wexford’s celebrates with its annual outdoor St. Patrick’s Day Party. Hear live music by Johnny & Kelly, Strange Brew and Gotcha Covered, as well as DJ sets by Jason Gulley and DJ Tease. There will be Irish food, drinks and other specials available at the 21-and-over event.

‘An Evening of Dance’
Juline School of Dance brings “An Evening of Dance” to the Gallo Center for the Arts. The fifth anniversary show by the Juline Regional Youth Ballet features some 30 dancers, ages 12 to 18. The show will include selections from “Peter and the Wolf” and a repertory concert by guest choreographer Brooke Frandsen and student choreographer Natiana Leverich.
