Billy Gardell

“Mike & Molly” star Billy Gardell brings his stand-up act to Turlock Community Theatre. The actor and comic played Chicago police officer Mike Biggs on the CBS sitcom opposite Melissa McCarthy for six seasons. Gardell draws on his own blue-collar roots for a lot of his comedy. He will appear on a new CMT series this spring as legendary Elvis Presley manager Col. Tom Parker.

Opus Handbell Ensemble

Ring in the holidays, quite literally, with the Opus Handbell Ensemble. The community handbell choir has been performing in the Modesto area since 1992. The Christmas show at the Gallo Center for the Arts has become a popular holiday tradition. The almost 20-piece ensemble is lead by artistic director Richard J. Colla.

‘The Wizard of Oz’

Click your heels three times and say there’s no place like the Modesto Film Society. The group presents the Technicolor classic “The Wizard of Oz,” its last film of the year. The 1939 film adapted from the L. Frank Baum book features a young Judy Garland as Dorothy Gale, a Kansas girl swept to a mystical land by a twister, who finds a lion, scarecrow, tin man and witches while trying to get home.

Music at the GMC

The Music at the GMC series presents its season finale. The inaugural year of the joint effort between Modesto Unplugged and ModestoView has brought intimate acoustic shows to the Gottshalk Music Center. The last show of the year will feature seven-time national fiddle champion Megan Lynch Chowning and Grand Ole Opry staple and singer-songwriter Mary Sue Englund.

Fugazi documentary

Celebrate the do-it-yourself spirit at an event for Beat Happy! Music’s 30th anniversary. The show will feature a screening of the documentary “Floradora” about punk hardcore veterans Fuzagi. The film features footage of Fugazi, as well as a segment on the people who supported live punk shows in Modesto. Donations will benefit Hope Haven West.

Center Stage Conservatory

Center Stage Conservatory presents the new locally produced production “Dog’s Best Friend.” The play, written and directed by Modesto playwright Sam “I Am” Mellor, tells the story of a lonely teenage girl whose family dog turns human and becomes her best friend. Mellor has previously acted and produced with Modesto Junior College, Center Stage and Sankofa Theatre Company.
