Regional Mexican music singer Luis Coronel comes to the Gallo Center for the Arts. The Latin pop star has topped the Billboard Regional Mexican Album charts and won Best New Artist at the 2014 Latin Billboard Music Awards. He signed a record deal at 15. His hits include “Mi Niña Traviesa,” “Será Mas Fácil” and “Escápate.”

Latkes & Vodka

Modesto’s Congregation Beth Shalom returns with its annual Latkes & Vodka fundraising event. The ninth annual cocktail party will include live music from favorites Big Earl & Cryin’ Shame and Patty Castillo Davis. Festivities will include appetizers, dessert, a no-host bar, whiskey, bourbon and cigars. This year’s event honors Lou and Kenni Friedman.

Townsend Opera Recital Series

Townsend Opera continues its recital series with a concert by soprano Christine Capsuto. The Bay Area-based singer was in the Modesto opera company’s 2014 production of “La Bohème” and performed in its Opera Remix series last year. The cabaret show will include a glass of wine or champagne with admission. Dinner can be purchased additionally.

Christian music standout Francesca Battistelli won her first Grammy this year for her song “Holy Spirit. Skynnyn Lynnyrd

The West Side Theatre in Newman closes out its season with a show by rockers Skynnyn Lynnyrd. The tribute act to Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd brings the music of the band alive on stage. The original group’s hits include “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” “Tuesday’s Gone” and “Gimme Three Steps.”

Modesto on Ice

Downtown rink Modesto on Ice is back. The skating arena opens for the first day of its second season. The outdoor covered rink features public skating every day from Saturday through Jan. 22. The ice can also be rented for birthday parties and private events. Skating and hockey classes are also available.
