The Modesto Community Concert Association kicks off its 67th season with Gregg Young & the 2nd Street Band. The Southern California jazz act fuses rock, pop, Latin and Americana music into its sound. The group includes Grammy Award-winning and -nominated musicians, with Young on guitar and vocals.

Downtown Modesto Harvest Festival

Get into the season at the sixth annual Downtown Modesto Harvest Festival. The free family event will include a pumpkin patch, classic-car show, art display, children’s activities, live music and more. Festivities will include arts and craft vendor booths as well as food sellers offering everything from kettle corn to pumpkin pie.

Ripon’s St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church invites the community to its 13th annual Egyptian Festival. The event includes traditional food, live music, church tours, a pharaoh photo studio, activities for kids, a clothing boutique and more. A bazaar will include replicas of ancient art, artifacts, rugs and the like for sale.

Celebrate Angels Camp’s history at the Mark Twain Wild West Fest. The all-day street fair and music festival bills itself as a 19th-century Wild West Gold Rush-era celebration. The festival will include comedy performances, roving performers, shootout re-enactments, live music, vendors and more.

Modesto Sound fundraiser

The nonprofit recording studio Modesto Sound holds an Out of this World Fundraiser. The benefit will include live performances by local musicians including A’ La Lune, The Rykert Trio, Tristan Gianelli and Nathan Ignacio. The event includes dinner. Proceeds will go toward youth scholarships to music camp and audio job training.

The Super Cilantro Girl

Nonprofit youth-oriented stage company Lightbox Theatre opens its second season with “The Super Cilantro Girl.” The play is based on the works of U.S. poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. Written by California State University, Stanislaus, professor Arnold Anthony Schmidt, it follows the lives of a family of migrant workers.
