With ‘Album,’ Stage 3 travels back to the ’60s for some high school shenanigans
Sonora’s Stage 3 Theatre Company opens the comedy-drama “Album” this weekend.
The play follows two teenage couples coming of age during the 1960s. Directed by Stage 3 veteran Rocky Rhoades, the show is divided into eight scenes and spans the students’ high school years. Written by David Rimmer, it originally ran off Broadway in the early 1980s.
“Album” opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $25 general, $22 seniors, $17 students. For more information, call 209-536-1778 or visit www.stage3.org.
Let There Be Music Festival
Patterson is alive with the sound of music.
The Let There Be Music Festival will be an all-day benefit for the Patterson Unified School District and Patterson Education Foundation. The music education fundraiser will feature a full slate of national, regional and local performers. The lineup includes Blame Sally, Los Cadetes de Linares, Big Earl & the Cryin’ Shame, Banda La Nueva Era and more.
The festival is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Patterson Community Stadium. Tickets are $20 and will go toward increasing music education in the district. For more information, call 209-895-7700.
Modesto Junior College concerts
The public is invited to two concerts at Modesto Junior College.
The first is a recital by Oakland-based pianist and educator Omri Shimron at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Recital Hall Music 108 on the MJC East Campus. Shimron is director of keyboard studies at California State University, East Bay, in Hayward, where he teaches an international group of students. Tickets for his recital are $15 general, $10 students/seniors. He also is giving a free public master class for piano students and pianists from 2 to 4 p.m. earlier that same day.
The second is a concert from classical guitarists Daniel Radu and Aaron Davis at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Music Recital Hall on the MJC East Campus. Radu is a Romanian-born guitarist who studied at California State University, Stanislaus, and is finishing a master’s in music performance at the university. Sacramento native Davis is a student at Stanislaus State and a member of the Guitar Studio at its School of Music. Tickets are $10 general, $5 students and seniors.

Modesto Film Society
The classic horror film “The Phantom of the Opera” comes to Modesto’s historic State Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The Modesto Film Society will screen the silent 1925 film starring horror great Lon Chaney. The film’s soundtrack will be provided live by Modesto musician Kyle Barker. Attendees are encouraged to dress as characters from the film or in period costume.
