Modesto Christian’s boys basketball team ran its league winning streak to 150 consecutive games with an 88-43, Modesto Metro Conference rout of Davis High on Wednesday.

The Crusaders, now 19-1 for the season and 8-0 in the MMC, won their 19th consecutive game overall since dropping their season opener. Modesto Christian is ranked No. 6 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports and No. 1 in Northern California. Folsom, which beat MC 53-51 on Nov. 28, is No. 10 in the state and third in NorCal.

Except for the eight seasons (1998-2006) MC spent as an independent program, the Crusaders have celebrated league championships every season since 1997, and they seem well on their way to another.

Jordan Hollis-Buckner led all scorers with 20 points, while 6-foot-10 senior Robinson Idehen contributed 17 and seven rebounds. Senior point guard Christian Ellis had a big all-around performance with 10 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Juan Morales Vargas chipped in 16 points.

Brandon Gray scored 15 points to lead the Spartans, who fall to 5-3 in the MMC and are just one game ahead of Enochs for the league’s third and final automatic playoff berth.

The Crusaders see action again Friday at Modesto High, while Davis entertains Johansen.

Beyer 63, Gregori 53, at Beyer H.S. – Playing their first full Modesto Metro Conference game without star Georgie Dancer, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last week in the opening minutes against Downey, the Patriots broke the game open by outscoring the Jaguars 25-12 in the third quarter. Brian Perry picked up the slack in Dancer’s absence, scoring a game-high 22 points, while Tanner Gentry added 16 for Beyer, now 16-5 and 7-1 in league. Alex Badillo scored 19 to pace the Jaguars, who also got 13 from Brandon Waterford.

Beyer travels to take on Sylvan Avenue rival Enochs on Friday, while Gregori will entertain Downey.

Enochs 73, Johansen 48, at Johansen H.S. – The Eagles scored just four points in the first quarter but rallied for a Modesto Metro Conference victory over the Vikings. Enochs got 13 points from Andrew Sarkis and 12 from Kalif Johnson.

Johansen’s Maurice Woods led all scorers with 21, while teammate Fabian Herrera contributed 10 points.

Enochs hosts rival Beyer on Friday in Part II of the Battle of Sylvan Avenue, while Johansen visits Davis.
