Oakland A's add Turlock's Mendonca via Rule-5 draft

It looks like there will another athlete from Turlock playing professional sports in Northern California. But unlike Colin Kaepernick, a Pitman High grad who is the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, this time it's a Turlock High grad who will be playing for the Sacramento River Cats and, potentially, the Oakland A's.

The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the A's have picked up former Turlock High and Fresno State standout Tommy Mendonca in the major-league Rule-5 draft.

He's scheduled to start next season with the River Cats, Oakland's Triple-A affiliate.
