Stanislaus women sweep Chico State in CCAA basketball

The Cal State Stanislaus women’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to five Saturday night with a 63-57 win at Chico State. The Warriors, who beat the Wildcats twice in three nights, are closing in on a home berth to open the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament. Stanislaus, sitting in third place, will finish the regular season with two road games.

Coscia, Guevara, Vergara win Section Girls Masters wrestling titles

The Modesto Metro Conference waved high its banner after Enochs pair Rory Coscia and Katrina Guevara joined Gregori’s Liliana Vergara atop the winners’ podium at the Sac-Joaquin Section Girls Wrestling Championships held Saturday at McNair High in Stockton. Turlock freshman Hailey Ward and Golden Valley’s Adreyana Wickard also captured weight-class titles.

Bob Ford: Can NBA All-Star Game be saved?

A rather remarkable thing happened on Jan. 23, 1973, in old Chicago Stadium when the NBA held an All-Star Game and one of the teams failed to score 100 points. In fact, the West squad didn't even score "90 that day, losing 104-84 despite possessing a starting lineup of Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Sidney Wicks, Spencer Haywood, and Tiny Archibald.
