Fred Bigler: Without personal responsibility, expect more Fergusons

Re “What Ferguson needs” (Another View, Opinions, Dec. 3): There are two ways to control people. One is external control: law enforcement, welfare, court inducements. Several possible suggestions were given in the article. Unfortunately, the most effective way to control was not mentioned, internal control. Teaching wisdom for living, moral character, prudence and equity produces success in life.

People bring problems on themselves by their own irresponsible behavior and then often aggrevate a situation into something totally out of control.

Many people have forgotten their all-important humanness; personal individual responsibility. Selfish, violent and immoral character performance has become generational for many. Parents, society with media and education must revisit their sense of responsibility to the next generation. If not, then expect more Fergusons.

Fred Bigler, Turlock
