Bicyclist killed in Turlock collision identified

The bicyclist fatally struck by a car in Turlock on Wednesday night was identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office on Friday as Robert Costner.

The 46-year-old Modesto resident was struck by a southbound vehicle on Lander Avenue just south of Linwood as he rode a bicycle across the street while carrying a box, according to authorities.

The 64-year-old driver could not stop in time and hit Costner, who died at the scene.

The drive immediately stopped and has cooperated with authorities on the investigation.

Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have played a role in the wreck.
