The California State University, Stanislaus, endowment has received a $250,000 contribution from the Gemperle family. The gift goes to the One Purpose fund for scholarships.

“It is an investment in students who will shape the future of our region and California,” said Stanislaus State President Joseph F. Sheley.

The donation was from the seven children of the late Ernie and Annemarie Gemperle, founders of Gemperle Family Farms: Anita Mahaffey, Susan Abdo, and Heidi, Peter, Richard, Stephen and Michael Gemperle.

“I believe that education is a gift that keeps on giving. When you change someone’s life with education, you not only change his or her circumstance, but you have an impact for generations to come,” Mahaffey said.

The One Purpose campaign, in its second year, will run Aug. 27 through Oct. 8, with a goal of raising an additional $1 million, according to a university statement.
