Oakland shooting victim was at vigil for boys who drowned at Woodward Reservoir
A teenage girl died while attending a vigil in Oakland for two boys who drowned at Oakdale’s Woodward Reservoir last month.
Reggina Jefferies, 17, of Antioch, was identified as the shooting victim in the incident that occurred Tuesday in downtown Oakland, according to the East Bay Times.
Three other teens suffered gunshot wounds. Police did not have a motive for the shooting and no suspects have been arrested, the Times reported.
According to the newspaper, the teens and others were in the area of 14th Street and Broadway to attend a vigil for Josiah Pratt-Rose and his friend, Jamari Wilson. The shooting occurred in the 1300 block of Franklin Street.
Pratt-Rose and Wilson were among several people who jumped into the reservoir off a boat on May 28. The two boys – who were not wearing life jackets – never emerged. Three days later, their bodies came to the surface.
According to Crystal Pratt, Josiah’s mother, the two teens were loyal friends and had grown even closer since losing another friend last year to gun violence in Oakland.
