Oakhurst woman’s body found near Bass Lake
Madera County investigators are asking for the public’s help retracing the steps of a 48-year-old Oakhurst woman whose body was found in a stream near Bass Lake.
Deputies said there are no signs of foul play in the death of Viola Gillespie.
“The investigation into the circumstances leading up to her death will continue and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death,” Sheriff Jay Varney said in a news release.
Her body was found around 5 p.m. Saturday in a small stream flowing into Bass Lake around Road 432 and Mallard Drive, near the boat docks, deputies said.
Investigators said Gillespie was known to take walks in the area.
“Detectives are still trying to determine all events leading up to her becoming immersed in the shallow stream,” Varney said.
