Groveland man arrested in kidnapping of estranged wife

The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday arrested a Groveland man who was wanted for kidnapping, domestic violence and other charges tied to an incident in Goveland earlier this month.

Joshua Cody Power, 27, is accused of breaking into his estranged wife’s home on Jan. 18. He allegedly assaulted her and in the process injured her 2-year-old child and prevented them from leaving or calling authorities, said Sgt. Andrea Benson. She said the victim’s neighbor called police and Power fled the area.

The sheriff’s office released a photo of Power to the public and subsequently received multiple tips about his whereabouts. The office worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Pacific Southwest Apprehension Team to set up surveillance on Power.

The team pulled over a car in which Power was a passenger at about 12:45 p.m., Benson said. Power attempted to run and pulled out a utility knife, at which time a police dog was deployed to apprehend him.

Power was medically cleared at Sonora Regional Medical Center for the dog bites before being booked into the Tuolumne County Jail.

He was arrested on suspicion of multiple charges including kidnapping, burglary, robbery, corporal injury to a child and making criminal threats. Benson said Power is on parole and has a history of domestic violence.

Another passenger in the vehicle, Kevin Roberts, was arrested on a felony weapons charge out of Stanislaus County.
