Man reports he was robbed along Highway 49 after winning at casino

A man reported to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office that he was the victim of a roadside robbery Thursday afternoon after winning $9,000 at Chicken Ranch Casino southwest of Jamestown.

The armed robbery occurred on Highway 49 near Chinese Camp. The victim reported that he was on his way home to the Groveland area when a brown Chevrolet pickup track passed him. Shortly thereafter, he encountered the pickup parked on the side of the highway with its hood raised.

A white female standing next to the truck waved to him for assistance, he told deputies. When he pulled over, a white male he’d not seen emerged, pointed a gun at him and demanded his money.

The victim said he had no money, but the man said he knew he’d won at the casino and again demanded the money.

The victim surrendered his winnings, and both suspects got into the pickup and continued southbound on Highway 49.

No further description of the suspects was available Friday morning. Anyone who saw the suspects on the side of the road or elsewhere, or who has information on them, is asked to call the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office at 209-533-5815.
