Suspect – apparently a big fan of Hennessy – arrested in north Modesto robbery
Modesto police arrested a man early Wednesday morning after allegedly robbing a Stop n' Save of Hennessy for the second night in a row.
The Wednesday morning robbery occurred at the store on McHenry and Union avenues around 3 a.m., said Modesto Police Lt. Tom Ciccarelli.
The man threatened the cashier and fled with the Hennessy, a cognac. It’s unknown if he had a weapon.
Officers found the suspect about a half-mile away at Union and Dragoo Park Drive, Ciccarelli said.
He ran from the officers who chased after him. One officer deployed his Taser but it was ineffective, Ciccarelli said. Officers were able to finally apprehend the suspect, 51-year-old Martin Martinez Sandoval.
Sandoval also is a suspect in a robbery that occurred at the Stop n' Save at Sylvan Avenue and Oakdale Road the night before. Hennessy also also taken during that robbery.
He was booked on suspicion of robbery and resisting arrest.
