The motorcyclist who collided with a big rig at the intersection of H and Sixth streets in downtown Modesto on Wednesday afternoon died from his injuries, Modesto police reported Thursday morning.

Pending notification of family, police have identified the victim only as an adult male. Police also are not yet releasing the name of the truck driver, who was unhurt, department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said.

The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. The truck driver was going north on Sixth and the motorcyclist was heading west on H when they struck.

About the circumstances, Bear said, “They’re still trying to sort through what happened. They got a statement from the truck driver, but we’re also looking for witnesses.” Whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash also remains under investigation, she said.

First responders began treating the motorcyclist at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, where he died. No other parties aside from the cyclist and the truck driver were involved.

The area was blocked off just as the afternoon rush hour began, and officers anticipated the closure would last several hours.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Randy Raduechel at 209-572-9592 or raduechelr@modestopd.com.
