Stanislaus branch libraries will host Day of the Child events
Several branches of the Stanislaus County Library will offer Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros, or Day of the Child/Day of the Book, activities this month and next. Día de los Niños, also called Día, is a national program that celebrates multiculturalism and promotes literacy.
The Riverbank library will host Día on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can enjoy performances by Ballet Folklorico of Riverbank, followed by a bilingual story time. A number of crafts will be offered, including tissue paper flowers, noisemakers and festive paper lanterns. Light refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Riverbank Library.
The Modesto library will host its Día event April 25. It will start at 10:15 a.m. with bilingual story time, followed by a number of crafts, games and activities. Children will receive a free book while supplies last, compliments of the Friends of the Modesto Library. The event will conclude at 1 p.m.
The Patterson branch will celebrate Día on April 25 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The day will include crafts and a bilingual story time. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Patterson Library.
Día will take place at the Newman library on April 25 at 1:30 p.m. A story time will highlight multicultural backgrounds. Families can take part in a number of crafts, including tissue paper flowers, ankle bells and coloring pages. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Newman Library.
At the Keyes library, Dia will be April 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. The library will offer a variety of crafts that celebrate diversity. Snacks will be provided. That same day, Día will be held at the Hughson library at 3 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to make Mexican tin ornaments and seed maracas.
The Oakdale library will host Día on April 30 at 3:30 p.m. Families are invited to a special STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) story time followed by STEAM-related crafts. Each child will receive a new book thanks to a donation by the Friends of the Oakdale Library. Refreshments will be provided.
Finally, the Turlock library will celebrate Día on May 5 at 4 p.m. Children and families can learn about multiculturalism through stories and crafts. This Día program is sponsored by the Friends of the Turlock Library.
