Free farmers market hits the road
Inter-Faith Ministries of Greater Modesto took its newly launched Farm to Neighborhood Free Mobile Farmers Market to Empire on Wednesday as part of its Feed Modesto campaign, addressing food deserts and food insecurity in the greater Modesto area and Stanislaus County.
The program will deliver the bounty from Inter-Faith’s Gleaning and Gathering program, its Mat Lena Garden, and produce donated from the community to neighborhoods in need.
Low-income individuals are invited to “shop” for fresh fruits and vegetables and whole-grain breads in a setting similar to a farm stand, at no cost. The Teichert Foundation and Doctors Medical Center, as well as many local farmers and home gardeners, have made the program possible.
This week’s other stops include:
▪ Thursday, 10 to 11 a.m., Airport Community Center, 805 Empire Ave., Modesto
▪ Friday, 10 to 11 a.m., across the street from Franklin Elementary School, 120 S. Emerald Ave., Modesto
The program will repeat monthly. For more information, call Elizabeth Greenlee-Harrison at (209) 572-3117 or email elizabethgh@interfaithmodesto.org.
