Dutch treats: The tulips are blooming at Modesto farm

akuhn@mercedsunstar.com

Tulip season opened earlier this month at Dutch Hollow Farms in Modesto, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Now, the Easter countdown is on for the business at Oakdale and Claribel roads in Modesto. Owner John Bos Jr., aka Farmer John, plants about 100,000 tulip bulbs each season, and this year has more than 65 varieties, according to a post on the business’s Facebook page. Dutch Hollow Farms is open every day from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., unless it sells out of its daily cut supply before then. The farm also has some “you pick” days – Sunday’s was rained out, but check www.facebook.com/dutchhollowfarms for future plans.
