Sinkhole forces closure of Emerald Avenue in west Modesto

The city of Modesto closed a section of Emerald Avenue, north of Kansas Avenue, on Friday because of a sinkhole.

Officials expect the street will be closed until Monday. That’s when a contractor is expected to return to the site to make repairs to the street.

The city issued an urgent traffic alert about 4 p.m. Friday. Information on the cause of the sinkhole was not available.
