Hail, funnel clouds make for wild Wednesday in Modesto area
The Stanislaus County region was greeted with rainfall, hail, thunderstorms and even a funnel cloud Wednesday afternoon, thanks to a cold front moving through the West Coast.
However, National Weather Service meteorologists say the next few days will be pretty dry.
The west side of the San Joaquin Valley will be sunny through Wednesday, according to meteorologist/technician William Peterson.
“Most of the exciting stuff is over with,” Peterson said, referring to Wednesday’s rain. The weather service did not have an estimate Wednesday afternoon about how much rain the region received.
It hailed in Oakdale and Valley Home and a funnel cloud was spotted in Waterford.
No major crashes resulting from the weather were reported.
In downtown Modesto, 0.03 inches of rain was recorded by the Modesto Irrigation District.
Temperatures Friday through Sunday are expected to be in the low 80s, increasing to the mid-80s by the middle of next week, Peterson said.
