Bicyclist dies after collision with big rig in Modesto

A 53-year-old man riding a bicycle died after he was struck by a big rig at Ninth and D streets in Modesto on Friday.

The man was transported to Doctors Medical Center, according to Modesto police Sgt. Tom Ciccarelli.

The man was unresponsive as he was taken by ambulance to the hospital and later died at the hospital, according to police spokeswoman Heather Graves.

Ciccarelli said it was too soon to declare who was at fault for the collision. Police were investigating the incident. Traffic was blocked off near the incident for at least a few hours.
