Hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg coming to Modesto
The one and only D-O Double G is coming to Modesto’s Fat Cat Music House & Lounge.
Hip-hop superstar Snoop Dogg will perform at the downtown nightclub Feb. 4. Tickets for his show go on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday for $65.
Billed as “Snoop Dogg & Friends,” the rapper’s appearance is a coup for the venue. In the past, the club has hosted national acts from alt-rockers Maroon 5 to blues great Buddy Guy and hip-hop hit-makers including Sir Mix-A-Lot.
“Getting Snoop Dogg for Modesto is a unicorn,” said Fat Cat promoter Chris Ricci. “He was looking for dates surrounding the Super Bowl and we were fortunate enough to get one of them. It’s the kind of show that only happens a few times in your career as a promoter. We are thrilled.”
Ricci said he expects the 524-person capacity nightclub to sell out quickly.
Snoop – who over the course of his career has dabbled with nicknames from Snoop Doggy Dog to Tha Doggfather and Snoop Lion – rose to fame in the 1990s as a collaborator with Dr. Dre to become one of the biggest West Coast hip-hop stars around. His hits include “What’s My Name?” “Gin and Juice,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Murder Was the Case,” among others.
The rapper has been able to transcend his genre, becoming an icon not only in hip-hop but in pop culture at large. He has appeared in movies from “Training Day” to “Bones” and last year’s “Pitch Perfect 2.” He also remains an in-demand musical collaborator and has been featured on hits from pop princess Katy Perry (“California Gurls”), R&B artist Jason Derulo (“Wiggle”) and dance-pop group The Pussycat Dolls (“Buttons”).
Doors for the show will open at 6 p.m. Ricci said there’s no word yet on what other artists will appear on the bill.
