Fire causes major damage to vacant west Modesto home

A vacant house in west Modesto suffered major damage after a fire tore through the home on Vernon Avenue.

Firefighters with the Burbank Paradise Fire Department responded to the blaze at the one-story home at about 7:30 p.m.

When they arrived, they found the home fully engulfed with heavy smoke and flames. Fire also extended into the basement, according to Peter Golling, assistant chief for Burbank Paradise.

The incident remains under investigation.
