Two injured in Modesto house fire
An adult and a child were hospitalized after a fire broke out at a home in east Modesto on Saturday night.
According to the Modesto Fire Department, firefighters were called to the home on Counts Court at 10:34 p.m. Crews arrived to find a garage on fire, with a boat in the driveway and homes on either side threatened. One of the homes had heavy smoke coming from the eaves.
The fire went to three alarms, and 35 firefighters with eight engines and two trucks battled the blaze, according to a news release.
The home where the fire started sustained heavy fire damage, a home to the west had smoke damage to the garage, and the home to the east had a “light smoke odor,” authorities said in the release.
Two people were taken to the hospital, a woman with third-degree burns on her arm and a child who had smoke inhalation. A third person had smoke inhalation but refused to be taken to the hospital, authorities said.
In addition, the utility meters between the primary home and the home to the west were badly damaged by the fire. The Modesto Irrigation District and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. were called to the scene to secure the utilities.
The American Red Cross was called to help the residents of the home that burned. Damage was estimated at $250,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
