Fire in east Modesto causes damage to business, vehicles
Part of a trucking company shop and a motorhome suffered damage in a fire in east Modesto early Thursday evening.
The fire near Beard and Nathan avenues north of the Modesto Airport broke out at the same time firefighters were contending with a major vegetation fire north of the city.
The Beard fire threatened a few homes but firefighters from the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District and the Ceres Fire Department were able to contain it in time.
Two vehicles from another business also suffered damage, according to Battalion Chief Rick Bussell of Stanislaus Consolidated.
Nine trucks and one engine received a call to the fire that sent thick, black smoke into the air.
The cause of the fire, which was first reported at 6:42 p.m., remains under investigation, Bussell said.
