Info: District 5220 of Rotary International is currently seeking qualified candidates for its District Scholar program for students planning to do graduate work during the 2020-21 school year at the master’s, doctorate or post-doctorate degree levels. District 5220 covers the area from Madera to Galt, from Tracy/Mountain House to Yosemite. The application process is open to current college seniors and graduate students. What: Pajama and Book Donation Drive

Where: Ceres Community Center, 2701 4th St.

Info: The Pajama Program, a nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit, seeks to provide pajamas, storybooks and resources for parents and caregivers. The Central Valley Chapter is asking for community help in collecting pjs and books for children and teens up to age 18. Visit and tour the Knights Ferry Community Church (1860), 12600 Shurl St., at 9:30 a.m. The Historic Knights Ferry Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to show its Christmas decor. The IOOF Stanislaus Lodge #170 (1891) and Summit Masonic Lodge #112 (1870) will have special open houses. The Christmas parade is at noon, starting at River’s Edge Restaurant. 100 YEARS AGO: The Modesto Irrigation District received notice from the State Bond Commission, that it could go forward with its proposed $2 million measure. MID’s bond measure proposal was to cover its part of the cost on the construction of the Don Pedro Irrigation Project and development of a power plant at the dam.
