Big rig crashed on tracks in Merced Co. Authorities scrambled to stop oncoming train

At least one person was injured Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer overturned on a railroad track in Merced County, authorities reported.

The crash was reported just before 11:30 a.m. in the area of Westside Boulevard and Highway 99 near the railroad track.

Investigators said the driver of the big rig, an adult male, was heading south on Highway 99 before the truck overturned on the tracks.

Authorities stopped an oncoming train before it crashed into the big rig.

The CHP website reported at least one person was taken to a hospital in a helicopter.

Traffic is backed up on southbound Highway 99.
