Woman ejected from car after shearing off power pole in Denair crash
A woman was ejected from her car after hitting a power pole in what authorities believe was an alcohol-involved crash along a rural stretch of Hawkins Road in Denair late Saturday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol responded to a call at 4:11 p.m. for a single-vehicle accident between Lake and East Keyes roads. A 54-year-old woman from Denair, had been driving alone south on Hawkins when she veered off the road and hit a Turlock Irrigation District power pole head on, said CHP officer Christopher Shore.
Her car, a white Mitsubishi Lancer, sheared off the pole and she was ejected and became ensnared in some barbed wire, he said. A MediFlight helicopter was called and the driver was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Her condition is unknown at this time.
Shore said alcohol is believed to be a factor. At the crash scene a half-empty bottle of Seagram's Peach Vodka was visible on the roof of the car.
