Doctors Medical Center sponsors sports screening for Modesto City Schools

jwestberg@modbee.com

Doctors Medical Center is sponsoring a pre-participation sports screening for all Modesto City Schools athletes Thursday at Enochs High School.

Student-athletes who plan to play a sport in the fall, winter or spring are encouraged to attend with a completed athletic physical card with parent signatures. Times vary by school. Students without a screening won’t be allowed to try out for a sport.

The $25 fee will be donated back to the respective high school.

“Doctors Medical Center provides outstanding care at the sports screenings, and the generous donations made to back our schools’ Associated Student Body accounts help provide a number of opportunities for students to get involved in a variety of activities,” Modesto City Schools Superintendent Pam Able said. “We are grateful for our partnership with Doctors Medical Center and look forward to another exceptional year of athletics.”

More than 900 prospective student-athletes attended the sports screening last year, generating more than $23,000. DMC officials expect more than 1,200 students this year.

The screening is the kickoff to Doctors Medical Center’s partnership with Modesto City Schools. Affiliated physicians will provide sideline coverage at every football game and will staff Friday Night Clinics for athletes injured during the games.

“Doctors Medical Center is excited to help provide consistent medical coverage to our local athletes,” said Jonathan Pettegrew, an orthopedic sports medicine doctor with the Stanislaus Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic. “Our sports medicine program’s partnership with Modesto City Schools will give these student-athletes the appropriate care they deserve. The pre-participation physicals are a great foundation in which to begin with.”

For more information about the screenings, including times for each school, students should contact their athletic director or coach.
