Stanislaus District seniors honored during National Signing Day events
The early signing period for every sport besides football began Wednesday, Nov. 12, with the first national signing day for the high school Class of 2026. A number of Stanislaus District athletes put pen to paper, making good on their verbal commitments to NCAA Division I, II and III, and NAIA schools.
From having a hand in the final two outs to securing a travel softball national championship to playing for the Philippine youth national team to being named the best player in the Trans-Valley League, Madi Babasa has seen it all when it comes to softball. On Wednesday, the outfielder from Escalon High signed to play at the University of Arizona, one of the most recognizable and top-tier programs in the sport. In front of friends, family, coaches and trainers, Babasa saw a childhood dream come true.
A two-sport athlete, Babasa helped lead the Cougars to a Sac-Joaquin Section basketball title game as just a sophomore. On the field, she is a TVL Most Outstanding Player (2025) and a three-time Modesto Bee All-District honoree (honorable mention in 2023, second team in 2024, first team in 2025).
As a junior last season, she posted career highs in batting average (.600), stolen bases (14), triples (7) and home runs (4). Babasa also led the team with 29 runs scored, 30 hits.
There are usually a lot of moving parts at a Central Catholic signing day photo op. After athletic director Billy Hilla and student athletes speak and the athletes sign, families load banners, memorabilia and signs for their athlete’s future school.
This year, the Raiders’ early signees got to share the table with no adjustments as baseball player Kayden McHenry and softball player Madison Harrison will both attend Sacramento State next fall.
With a green, gold and white Sacramento State banner draped across the middle of the table, family, friends and teammates took turns congratulating and posing for pictures on Thursday with Modesto’s newest signees.
McHenry, who is also a two-year starting quarterback on the Raiders’ football team, was the ace on the baseball team that reached the 2025 Sac-Joaquin Section Division III section championship. He posted a 2.71 earned run average and recorded a team-high seven wins in 14 appearances and struck out 72 batters. At the plate he was second on the team with 25 runs scored, eight doubles and three home runs and finished top three on the team in hits (38), RBI (24). He posted a .342 batting average.
Harrison, a three-year varsity starter at catcher, has consistently been one of the Raiders’ top offensive players. She has helped lead the team to three-straight section title games and is a 2023 NorCal champion. In her junior season, she posted a career high .461 batting average and finished tied for the team lead in home runs (8). She also tallied career highs in runs scored (39), hits (47), RBI (38), doubles (11) and triples (3).
Gregori High girls soccer player Kylie Farmer signed to continue her career at the University of Oregon Wednesday at lunch in the Jaguars’ library. Farmer, a defensive midfielder, helped lead the Jaguars to the Division I quarterfinals as a sophomore and the D-I semifinals as a junior. They won CCAL titles in both seasons. Last season as a junior, she finished eighth in California with 26 assists and scored 13 goals.
Her club team involvement continues this year as she and her club team Stanislaus United SC will compete in the prestigious upcoming ENCL Girls National Showcase. Farmer’s Stanislaus United teammate Valeria Alcala also signed Wednesday and will compete at Utah State.
When Adriana Dorn signed with the University of the Pacific Thursday at Ripon High in front of family, friends, teammates and coaches, she became the first Ripon High volleyball player to sign with the Tigers since Misty Swails in 2000.
Dorn, The Bee’s reigning volleyball player of the year, tallied over 1,300 kills during her four-year varsity career, but will play setter in college. At Ripon, Dorn was part of four straight section finals appearances, 2022 and 2024 section titles and has not lost to a TVL opponent in over three seasons with three straight undefeated league championships.
