Basketball Roundup: Magana’s shot at the buzzer lifts CC, MC beats St. Mary’s
Central Catholic senior guard Dayton Magana has made big plays throughout his career.
On Friday, Magana added another highlight play, making a 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Raiders beat Weston Ranch, 74-72, in a Valley Oak League matchup.
The Raiders (10-0, 19-7) clinched a share of the league title and can win the VOL outright with a victory over East Union on Feb. 12.
Magana had 22 points while Cougars senior Gavin Wilburn led all scorers with 27.
Modesto Christian 84, St. Mary’s 47: The Crusaders (10-1, 18-9) held the Rams to 32% shooting from the field and inched closer to a Tri-City Athletic League title with one game remaining.
Enochs 53, Turlock 47: The Eagles (6-2, 13-12) remained in second place in the CCAL with a win over the Bulldogs (3-5, 9-16).
Beyer 85, Johansen 47: Junior Jonny Lee made a school-record 12 3-pointers in the Patriots (10-2, 16-9) victory over the Vikings (4-8, 6-20).
Hughson 68, Ripon 63: The Indians (8-3, 14-13) were upset by the Huskies (4-7, 8-18) in a Trans-Valley League contest. It was Hughson’s fourth straight win.
Ripon Christian 73, Hilmar 45: Knights (8-2, 19-6) junior William Gilbert had 23 points in the win over the Yellowjackets (6-3, 19-6). Ripon Christian leads Ripon by 1/2 game atop the TVL standings.
