Local Roundup: St. Pat's baseball stays in hunt for league title

St. Pat's 4, Swett 3

The St. Patrick-St. Vincent High baseball team overcame a two-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh to score three runs and win 4-3 to pull within a game of Swett for first place.

The two teams play Thursday afternoon at Swett for first place in the Tri-County Athletic League. Swett has already clinched a tie for the title, but a Bruins loss on Thursday would mean Swett would claim the TCAL to itself.

The Bruins were led on Tuesday by Royce Pennington, who had two hits and scored two runs. Lucius and Logan Lissner each drove in a run, while Xavier Brewer and Jaden Dichoco each collected two hits.

Pennington pitched six and a third innings and struck out six.

St. Pat's improved to 13-8 and 9-2 overall with the win.

Alhambra 7, Benicia 0

The Benicia High baseball team lost 7-0 to Alhambra on Tuesday afternoon.

The Panthers could only collect two hits in the loss. Alhambra pitcher Wyatt Peterson threw 5 and 2/3 innings and gave up the two hits and struck out three.

Benicia is 10-9 overall and 1-4 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League after the loss.

Sonoma Valley 4, American Canyon 0

The American Canyon High baseball team continued to struggle in the Vine Athletic League on Tuesday, collecting just four hits in a 4-0 loss.

The Sonoma Valley victory dropped the Wolves' record in league play to 0-9. They are 5-16 overall.

Boys Volleyball

American Canyon 3, Analy 0

The American Canyon High boys volleyball team won the Vine Valley Athletic League title on Tuesday with a perfect 12-0 record by defeating Analy in three sets.

The Wolves won 25-21, 25-19, 25-23.

American Canyon (20-6 overall) plays Benicia in a nonleague match on Friday.

Softball

Vallejo 6, St. Pat's 4

The Vallejo High softball team defeated St. Patrick-St. Vincent 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Redhawks improved to 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the Tri-County Athletic League with the win.

Nevae Beacham and Jaquelyn Benito each had a hit, drove in a run and scored a run, while Gabriella Wida had a hit and scored a run.

Clayton Valley Charter 9, Benicia 2

The Benicia High softball team lost to Clayton Valley Charter 9-2 on Tuesday.

The Panthers were led by Ellie Kunstman, who had a hit and drove in both runs. Arielle Der and Skyler Jacome each had a hit and scored a run.

Benicia is now 10-9 overall and 2-3 in the Diablo Valley Athletic League.

Badminton

Bethel 16, Richmond 1

The Jesse Bethel High badminton team picked up a 16-1 victory on Tuesday night over Richmond.

Singles' winners on the girls' side for Bethel were Vy Phan, Melody Tigbao, Nia Ramos and Betzayda Gonzalez.

On the boys' side, winners came in singles play from Cristanto Mendoza, Montrey Masalaysay, Ethan Concepcion and Hindeshn Langit.

Wins also came from the girls' doubles teams of Vilda Dia playing with Maily Morales and Rachel Soto playing with Navneet Kaur. Boys doubles winners came by forfeit.
