Condors lose in OT, but gain playoff positioning; Fresno State defeats CSUB baseball; HS Baseball, Softball standings

The Bakersfield Condors lost an AHL Pacific Division road game, 3-2 in overtime, against the Henderson Silver Knights on Tuesday and that is good for the Condors' playoff positioning push.

Even in an overtime defeat, the Condors picked up a point in the standings to 83 points. Bakersfield (36-23-10) has two games left. The Condors, who are currently in fifth place, will face fellow playoff qualifier San Jose twice, at home on Friday and in San Jose for the regular-season finale Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m. If the Condors win Friday, they'll qualify for the 4-5 seed playoff series. San Jose (39-27-2) currently has 82 points.

Bakersfield team captain Seth Griffith scored his 18th goal of the season with 40 seconds left in regulation on assists from Roby Jarventie and Quinn Hutson to the game at 2 and send the game to overtime.

Henderson's Raphael Lavoie scored the game-winning goal on a power play with 1:04 remaining in the five-minute overtime. The teams combined for eight shots in the extra frame.

Bakersfield scored the game's first goal on the power play when Viljami Marjala tipped in a shot by Atro Leppanen 3:57 into the second period. Hutson also assisted on the goal. It was Marjala's 16th goal of the season.

Henderson scored twice in the third period, including Trevor Connelly's unassisted goals just 1:18 in, to tie the game at 1. Kai Uchacz gave Henderson the 2-1 lead on a power-play goal 8:50 in.

In a separate note regarding the Condors, two players, left wing Isaac Howard and right wing Quinn Hutson, were named to the AHL's All-Rookie Team on Wednesday. The team was voted on by players, coaches and media.

Howard has 47 points in 45 games (22 goals, 25 assists) and Hutson leads all rookies in the league with 30 goals. He also has 31 assists for 61 total points, which puts him second in the league among rookies. Both players have also been called up for stints in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers.

This is the second time the Condors have placed two rookies on the AHL All-Rookie Team after Tyler Benson and Shane Starrett were selected to the 2018-19 team. Max Gildon (2020-21) is the only other Condor to receive All-Rookie Team recognition.
