Wiseburn Da Vinci baseball defeats Segerstrom at Angel Stadium
The Wiseburn Da Vinci baseball team has experience playing under the lights.
Wiseburn is using Lawndale as its home field this season and its home games start at 7:30 p.m.
The Wolves were under the lights again Monday, but this time on the big stage, as they hosted Segerstrom at Angel Stadium as part of the stadium's annual Halo Classic series.
"They were excited," Wiseburn coach Ezequiel Barba said of his team's players. "The possibility to play at a major league stadium could be a once-in-a-lifetime thing."
The game also served as a fundraiser for the program. Barba said that each player in the program had to sell five tickets at $25 apiece and the Wolves overall had sell a number of tickets to get the opportunity to play.
Seven pitchers threw one inning each for Wiseburn as it defeated Segerstrom 3-2.
Thomas Carpenter had two hits, a run scored and an RBI for Wiseburn.
"Every pitcher said they wanted to run in out of the bullpen," Barba said.
The Wolves scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Wiseburn (10-9) returns to Pioneer League play Wednesday with a game at Peninsula. The two teams will also meet Friday at Lawndale High at 7:30 p.m.
More information about the Halo Classic is available on the Angels' website.

Changes to CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs
The CIF-SS announced a new format for the Division 1 playoffs this season.
As of this week, it doesn't appear that any South Bay teams will be competing in the Division 1 field.

All of the other divisions will be made up of 32 teams and single elimination. Each division's No. 1 seed will be an automatic qualifier.
The playoff pairings will be released May 9.
