NHL: Messier tops Hall list

Mark Messier aimed for championships during his 25-season career, not the Hall of Fame.

Messier, 46, won six Stanley Cups.

Three years removed from his playing days, Messier will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame today in Toronto. He'll be joined by defensemen Scott Stevens and Al MacInnis, forward Ron Francis and Jim Gregory, an NHL executive and former general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"The four of them, that's a very special kind," said St. Louis Blues president John Davidson, also a former New York Rangers broadcaster. "I'm on the selection committee, and I don't know why we had the meeting."

SUNDAY'S GAMES -- Rookie scoring leader Patrick Kane had a power-play goal and an assist to help Chicago beat visiting Detroit 3-2. ... Paul Stastny had two goals and an assist as host Colorado defeated Minnesota 4-2.
