Ann Marie Mangini: Valentine’s ceremony truly touching for many

Re “Couples’ devotion honored in ceremony at nursing home” (Page 3A, Feb. 13): True love finally gets some R-E-S-P-E-C-T. As Aretha Franklin so aptly sang it, love means respect.

The director of recreation at Windsor Post Acute Care, Jason Visola, deserves high praise for acknowledging a type of love between couples that is on the decline. Jason – bless his heart –arranged a Valentine’s Day event where couples were rewarded for their devotion and sacrifice in the face of hard times. I do not know Jason, but I would bet he had parents who showed love in many small ways.

My dad used to grab my mom’s behind when she was cooking at the stove – shocking behavior for a 12-year-old to see. Of course, I didn’t understand her squeals of delight! Now I do – the little things mean so much.

Jason is an invaluable asset to his company and I hope he is richly rewarded for his empathy for his elderly clients. I just hope that when my turn comes, there is someone even half as wonderful as Jason Visola there to recognize and encourage me and my husband.
