Heat advisory issued as Modesto braces for weekend temperature spike
Modesto is expected to see a steady rise in temperatures into the weekend and early next week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for parts of the Central Valley. In Modesto, it will be in effect from 11 a.m. Monday to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Monday is the hottest day in the seven-day forecast, with a predicted high near 99 degrees.
The forecast marks one of the hottest stretches of the year so far, with temperatures climbing higher than Modesto’s in parts of the Northern San Joaquin Valley.
The advisory comes as Northern California transitions from a cooler, wetter spring pattern into above-normal temperatures. The NWS Sacramento office said “well above normal temperatures” are expected through the weekend, with widespread “minor heat risk” across the Valley.
Earlier this week, forecasters projected Modesto could reach the upper 90s during the warmup, with temperatures rising more than 30 degrees over the course of several days.
The weather service recommends that residents:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Stay in air-conditioned buildings when possible.
- Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
- Wear lightweight clothing.
- Check on elderly neighbors and relatives.
- Watch for symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Officials also urged outdoor workers to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Heat stroke is considered a medical emergency and anyone experiencing symptoms should call 911 immediately.
The weather service said the warm and dry pattern is expected to continue into next week.
