A woman was caught burglarizing the restaurant where she works after hours and leaving her daughter in the backseat of her car during the burglary, according to Connecticut State Police.

The restaurant’s owner had suspicions that an employee was stealing money from his business for a few weeks in Mansfield, about a 25-mile drive east from Hartford, state police said in a July 24 news release.

He noticed “abnormal logins” from one employee on the restaurant’s register system, according to authorities.

Then he learned the employee visited the business outside of her shift, “two nights in a row when no one was supposed to be there,” police said.

The evening of July 23, he drove to his restaurant around the same time and watched the woman arrive in her car, according to police.

He called 911 and reported a burglary — resulting in her arrest, police said.

When state troopers arrived, they found the 28-year-old had stolen cash from the restaurant as her daughter was alone, sitting in her car, according to police. The amount she’s accused of stealing wasn’t specified by authorities.

The woman, of Coventry, was charged with third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny and risk of injury to a minor.

Information regarding her legal representation wasn’t immediately available.

McClatchy News is not identifying the woman to protect the identity of her child.

Before the woman’s arrest, authorities had a family member arrive to get her daughter, police said.

The woman was taken into custody and released on a $5,000 bond, according to police, who are continuing to investigate the burglary.

She’s due in Rockville Superior Court on Aug. 7, police said.
