Mom gives birth during crash – then she and cops can’t find baby, Georgia video shows
A woman was rushing her pregnant daughter to the hospital when their SUV suddenly hydroplaned into oncoming lanes and smashed into a power pole, Georgia police say.
The expectant mother gave birth as the vehicle crashed early Monday morning, according to police in Lilburn, a city about 20 miles northeast of Atlanta.
As officers arrived at the scene, they found the two women and a child outside the Chevy Tahoe. But the baby was nowhere to be found.
The officers searched the wreckage and found the newborn alive under a back seat, video shows. An officer leaned into the SUV and pulled the baby from the vehicle.
“He’s got the baby right here!” an officer yelled to other first responders.
Then the officers rushed the baby to an ambulance, which took the child to a hospital. The baby was in stable in the neonatal intensive care unit, police said on Friday.
“I’m very proud of our officers,” Lilburn Police Chief Bruce Hedley said in a news release. “Their quick thinking and teamwork helped save the life of this newborn.”
