93-year-old shoots maintenance worker because apartment flooded, Las Vegas police say

A 93-year-old man, angered over the water damage and flooding in his apartment complex, shot a maintenance worker twice, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says.

Police say Robert Thomas opened fire at the Vista Del Valley apartments on Jan. 2, leaving a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, according to a press release.

Thomas is a resident of the complex and was angry about his flooded apartment. In the video of the incident, a manager is seen talking to Thomas as a woman discreetly speaks to the police over the phone, ABC7 reported.

”The female caller stated that an elderly male, later identified as Robert Thomas, was armed with a firearm inside the management office and was making verbal threats,” a Las Vegas police spokesperson said at a press conference.

Thomas pulled a gun out of his coat and fired at the back of the room, hitting a computer, police said, NBC reported. He then allowed a woman to leave before shooting a maintenance worker in the leg. After the man fell to the ground, Thomas shot him again, according to NBC.

A police officer then ordered Thomas to drop his weapon and shot through the glass door. The bullet struck Thomas’ jacket and police arrested him, according to the release.

The injured man was taken to University Medical Center Trauma with “non-life threatening injuries,” according to the press release.

Thomas was charged with attempted murder with deadly weapon, kidnapping with deadly weapon, discharging firearm without structure, burglary with a firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon, according to the release.
