Turlock’s new police chief was sworn into office on Wednesday. Jason Hedden took his oath in front of a large audience at Harvest Church in downtown Turlock. “I’m excited to make a difference in the place I raise my family,” Hedden said in an email to The Bee upon his hiring last month. Hedden takes over from Gary Hampton, who has filled the role on an interim basis since August. Before Hampton’s appointment, Turlock Police Capts. Steven Williams and Miguel Pacheco took turns serving as interim chief following Nino Amirfar’s retirement in October 2020 after leading the department since January 2017. Hedden comes to Turlock from the Los Banos Police Department, where he worked for 18 years. He is a Turlock resident.
