Patterson school has short lockdown

Students at Apricot Valley Elementary School had a lockdown this morning while law enforcement officers conducted a drug sweep nearby, the Patterson Unified School District said.

“The lockdown took place between 9 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. without incident,” the district said in an email sent out minutes after the all-clear.

The California Highway Patrol notified the district of the planned operation Tuesday near the campus on Henley Parkway in eastern Patterson. The school serves about 875 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The district posted a lockdown notice on the its Facebook page as it happened and said in the email it would be notifying parents.

“Apricot Valley School is on lockdown due to police activity in the area. School security officers are at AVE and we are working with state law enforcement to stay updated on the situation. The lockdown is for off-campus police activity and is for precautionary purposes only,” the district wrote on Facebook. Updates minutes later announced the lockdown had been lifted.
