A Sonora man was arrested last week following a months-long investigation into the alleged possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began in September, when the Sheriff’s Office received a cyber tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force regarding a Tuolumne County resident suspected of possessing or distributing child sexual abuse material, often referred to as child pornography.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office investigations division served multiple search warrants to communication and social media companies during the course of the investigation, authorities said. Evidence gathered through those warrants led investigators to identify the suspect as 32-year-old Christopher Joseph Torres of Sonora.

On April 28, detectives contacted and arrested Torres at the Sheriff’s Office, officials said. He was booked into the Dambacher Detention Center on charges related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

Authorities did not immediately release additional details about the case or specify how many charges Torres may face.

The investigation remains ongoing.
