Authorities have identified a woman killed in a hit-and-run crash in Modesto last week and are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that was involved.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Sarah Poplasky, 44, of Modesto.

The crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. April 24 on Riverside Drive, south of Nathan Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In a social media post this week, CHP officials said they are searching for a white sedan, possibly a Nissan or other imported vehicle, believed to have been involved in the fatal collision.

The vehicle may have damage to its lower front bumper, authorities said. It was last seen traveling north on Riverside Drive.

Officers who responded to the crash found Poplasky in the roadway with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP said Poplasky was standing on the east shoulder of Riverside Drive before entering the roadway into the path of northbound traffic.

She first was struck by a 2000 Ford pickup driven by a 59-year-old Modesto man. He remained at the scene, authorities said.

After the initial impact, Poplasky came to rest in the northbound lane, where she was struck again by the white sedan traveling behind the pickup. The driver of that vehicle left the scene.

A CHP spokesperson said preliminary investigation suggests the woman may have entered the roadway intentionally.

The intersection of Riverside Drive and Nathan Avenue was closed for about 90 minutes during the investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact CHP Modesto Detective Aaron Norseen at 209-545-7440.
